DANCE

Be thankful for the morning, and every breath you take. Be thankful for the friends you have, and the friends you've yet to make. Love those close to you with all your heart, stay strong when things feel like they'll fall apart. Have faith in tomorrow, but live for today. Take chances, have fun, even if it means to disobey. Say what you need, because you may not have another chance. And lastly, when you get the opportunity, dance.

Ann Coulter and the R-Word.

I just came across a letter written by a young man with Down syndrome to Ann Coulter about her use of the "R-word." The letter can be found here:

This letter touched me, and brought tears to my eyes, for this young man is so inspirational. I had to write him a letter in response to his.  However, I'm still in the process of finding out how to contact him.  So until then, I'm posting the letter here.

Dear Mr. Stephens,
A friend of mine tweeted the link to your letter to Ann with the words “I seriously love this letter and this man. y'all should read this.”  So I clicked the link and read your letter.  I had tears in my eyes.  I commend you to the highest degree for your boldness to stand up for what is right.
My brother has Autism.  One of my best friend’s younger brother has Autism.  He was the one that got me involved with “Spread the Word to End the Word.”  I am constantly correcting my friends, and colleagues, as well as the students in the classroom I am student teaching in.  I do it instinctively now, it’s like a little radar in my brain goes “beep! beep! beep!” and I politely ask them choose another word.
I have the best job, I am a PASS worker.  I work with a seven year old boy named Danny, and a seventeen year old girl named Danielle.  They both have Down syndrome.  I do not know many people that get excited to go to work, but I am proud to say that I am one.  I aspire to guide Danny and Danielle to be strong individuals, like you.  You are an inspiration.
I’ve shared your letter with my younger sister who is a Special Olympics coach, as well as numerous other family members and friends.  It is people like you, people who stand up for what is right, that make the word a better place.
If our paths ever cross, expect to receive the biggest hug you could ever imagine! J

I wish you the best in everything you do,
S
